The Friendship Recipe — Helping Your Daughter Mix Kindness and Boundaries

Every good recipe has balance. Too much of one ingredient, and it falls flat. Too little, and it crumbles.
The same goes for friendship.

For many girls, learning to balance kindness with assertiveness is tricky. They want to be liked, included, and helpful—but sometimes that means they give away too much of themselves.
That’s where The Friendship Recipe comes in.

Step 1: Stir in Self-Awareness
Encourage your daughter to notice how she feels after spending time with friends. Does she feel happy and energized—or drained and doubtful? Feelings are the first clue to healthy boundaries.

Step 2: Add a Spoonful of Confidence
Help her practice saying, “I don’t like that,” or “That hurts my feelings.” Confidence is the yeast that helps courage rise.

Step 3: Sprinkle Empathy, Not Excuses
Teach her that empathy doesn’t mean accepting poor treatment—it means understanding others without losing herself.

In My Crumby World, Penelope Pumpernickel might bake a batch of courage muffins while Rachel Rye reminds her that boundaries are acts of self-love, not selfishness. ❤️
