A Holiday Tradition Worth Starting
In the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it’s easy to get wrapped up in shopping, schedules, and to-do lists. But at My Crumby World, we believe this time of year is the perfect opportunity to slow down and sprinkle kindness like confetti.
That’s why we love the Path of Kindness—a fun, interactive craft that encourages kids to practice small acts of kindness each day leading up to Christmas, New Year’s, or any special celebration.
With her warm heart and natural gift for cooperation, Rachel Rye is the perfect Breadcrumb to guide this activity. She reminds kids that kindness doesn’t have to be big to be meaningful—it just needs to be shared.
🧡 What You’ll Need
Construction paper in bright colors
Scissors
Markers or crayons
Tape or glue
Optional: stickers, glitter, dot markers, Breadcrumbz character printouts
✂️ How to Make Your Crumby Pathway to Kindness
1. Cut Out Your Crumbz (in random shapes)
Cut your construction paper into shapes of various sizes—one for each day of your countdown.
10 days? 15? A full 24 days before Christmas? You choose!
2. Brainstorm Acts of Kindness
Ask your kids:
“What are small ways we can make someone’s day better?”
“How can we show love, care, or gratitude this season?”
Let Rachel Rye inspire your list with some ideas:
“Smile at three people today.”
“Help someone without being asked.”
“Write a thank-you note to a teacher.”
“Bake a treat for a neighbor.”
“Give a compliment.”
“Share your toys.”
“Sit with someone who feels lonely.”
“Clean up without complaining.”
“Tell a family member why you love them.”
Have your child write (or draw!) one act of kindness on each Crumb.
3. Decorate Each Crumb
Kids can decorate the crumbz with stickers, symbols, or drawings inspired by the Breadcrumbz—especially friend-focused Rachel Rye.
Encourage them to add:
✨ hearts
✨ smiley faces
✨ bread slices
✨ helping hands
✨ stars
4. As each act is done, create a visible path (in a place where all can see) that extends across a wall.
By seeing the acts that are done each day, kids learn the importance of performing some form of “kindness” daily. Make the path somewhere visible—above a door, along a staircase, in your child’s room, or in the kitchen.
5. Start the Countdown!
Each day, your child picks a crumb by either selecting from a stack (all placed facedown) or by shuffling and choosing from the floor or a hard surface (again, facedown). Once your child completes the act of kindness written on the opposite side, you can display the crumb on the growing path of kindness.
This helps kindness become a habit rather than a holiday add-on.
