Bake It Forward: Acts of Kindness Challenge

What You’ll Need

You don’t need much to get started — just a little time, a few ingredients, and a big heart. ❤️

Supplies:

  • Basic baking ingredients (flour, sugar, eggs, butter, etc.)

  • Recipe of your choice (cookies, muffins, banana bread — anything easy!)

  • Ribbon or twine for wrapping

  • Small tags or note cards

  • Markers or crayons

  • A list of people who could use a little extra kindness this week

🍞 How to “Bake It Forward”

  1. Pick Your Recipe
Choose something simple that your child can help with from start to finish.
Encourage measuring, mixing, and decorating — the more hands-on, the better!
(Bonus idea: Use one of your Crumby Kitchen recipes like Samantha Sourdough’s Pumpkin Bread or Gratitude Granola.)

2. Talk About Kindness
While baking, start a conversation about why kindness matters.
Ask questions like:

  • “How does it feel when someone does something kind for you?”

  • “Who might need a smile this week?”

  • “What does it mean to bake it forward?”

These discussions help kids connect their actions to empathy and gratitude.

3. Wrap with Love
Once the treats have cooled, wrap them up in small packages.
Add a tag or note that says something like:

“You’ve been baked forward! Enjoy this treat and pass on the kindness.”

Encourage kids to decorate the cards or add a drawing of one of The Breadcrumbz to make it extra special.

4. Deliver the Smiles
Choose who to surprise!

  • A neighbor

  • A teacher or coach

  • A first responder

  • A friend who’s had a hard week

  • A local shelter or community worker

The magic of this challenge is that kindness doesn’t have to be big to be meaningful.

Reflect and Repeat
After delivering your baked goods, take a moment to talk:

  • “How did it feel to give to others?”

  • “What can we do next time to keep spreading kindness?”
Maybe your family will decide to make this a weekly tradition!

Why It Matters

The Bake It Forward Challenge teaches kids one of life’s most important lessons: kindness multiplies.

When children experience the joy of giving, they:

  • Develop empathy by thinking about others’ needs.

  • Build confidence through meaningful action.

  • Strengthen family connection by working together on something good.

  • Experience gratitude — learning that giving feels just as good as receiving.

And the best part? The more you “bake it forward,” the more kindness rises in your community.

The Challenge:

Are you ready to Bake It Forward?
Here’s your mission:

  1. Bake something together.

  2. Share it with someone who could use a smile.

  3. Encourage them to pass it on!
