Thanksgiving isn’t just about turkey, pumpkin pie, and parades—it’s about remembering all the little things (and people!) that make life full and warm. Gratitude is one of the most powerful traits we can teach our children—it helps them build empathy, boosts their mood, and strengthens their relationships with others.
That’s why the Breadcrumbz are inviting families to join the “Crumbz of Thanks Challenge”—a fun, hands-on gratitude activity perfect for this Thanksgiving season!
What You’ll Need
Small strips of colorful paper (or pre-cut “Crumbz”)
Markers or crayons
A jar, box, or basket labeled “Crumbz of Thanks”
Optional: stickers, ribbon, or glitter for decoration
How to Play: The “Crumbz of Thanks” Challenge
1️⃣ Decorate Your Jar: Let your kids use stickers, ribbon, or doodles to make it their own. This will be their Gratitude Jar for the week.
2️⃣ Write a Crumb of Thanks: Each day, have your child write (or draw) one thing they’re thankful for on a paper “crumb.” It can be big (“my family”) or small (“warm socks”).
3️⃣ Add It to the Jar: Drop each note inside the jar. Watch as the jar fills up with color—and kindness!
4️⃣ Share at Dinner: On Thanksgiving, take turns pulling out “crumbz” and reading them aloud. You’ll be amazed at what your kids notice and appreciate.
Breaducation Moment
Whitney Wheat reminds us:
“When we count our blessings, we grow the garden of our hearts.”
Gratitude isn’t just a feeling—it’s a habit that shapes the way kids see the world. Writing it down helps them recognize joy in everyday moments.
Why This Matters
Research shows that kids who regularly practice gratitude experience:
Higher levels of happiness and optimism
Better social connections and empathy
More resilience when facing challenges
Gratitude helps them shift from “What do I get?” to “What do I already have?”—a powerful mindset for lifelong contentment.
Crumbz Connection Tip
Tie this activity into bedtime!
Before lights out, ask:
“What’s one thing you were thankful for today?”
“Who made your day a little brighter?”
It’s a simple way to strengthen bonds and end the day on a positive note.
💕 Extra Sprinkle: Make It a Family Tradition
Each Thanksgiving, empty your jar and glue your “crumbz” into a scrapbook. Over the years, you’ll have a Gratitude Book filled with memories, milestones, and blessings that tell the story of your family’s journey.
